Punjab Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani said that Special Protection Unit (SPU) has been providing foolproof security to Chinese experts working on CPEC projects, Chinese investors, businessmen and ordinary Chinese citizens.
“The Punjab Police will utilise all-out resources for effective security of Chinese and all supervisory officers should review security arrangements of CPEC projects or other installations in their districts to avoid any lapse.”
Chairing a video link conference of all RPOs, CPOs and DPOs of the province, Inam Ghani underscored that fresh security audit of all CPEC, non-CPEC and private projects of Chinese citizens across the province should be carried out, adding that a fresh scrutiny of private staff working as focal persons and drivers with Chinese citizens should also be undertaken.
The IGP said that all private security companies that provide security guards or other staff to Chinese citizens should also be subjected to a fresh security audit.
He added that CTD, Special Branch and local police should conduct search, sweep and combing operations in the vicinity of Chinese nationals’ residences, offices, business centres and projects and it should be continued on a daily basis while District Intelligence Committees should reconsider whether the Chinese nationals working privately in Pakistan need security and security arrangements should be increased as per requirement after mutual consultation.
The IG Police said that all available resources should be utilized for the security of Eid gatherings at mosques, imambargahs and open spaces across the province while special attention should be paid to the security of cattle markets and traffic management.
He said that in view of the arrival of Muharram, consultations should be initiated with the peace committees and stakeholders for comprehensive security arrangements.
The IGP said that there should be no delay in departmental and legal action against those responsible for deaths, torture and escape in police custody under Zero Tolerance while Additional IG Investigation should brief about the cases registered against police personnel and their progress after Eid.
During the meeting, Additional IG Operations Sahibzada Shehzad Sultan briefed the IG Punjab and said that on Eidul Azha, there will be Eid gatherings at 25,672 mosques, imambargahs, minority places of worship and open spaces across the province and around 47 thousand police officers and officials will perform security duty.
He said that 250 Gazetted Officers, 537 Inspectors, 1680 Sub-Inspectors, 3171 ASIs, 2387 Head Constables, 27869 Constables, 9093 Police National Volunteers, 3329 Special Police and 222 QRF Teams will also be deployed at the sensitive places whereas 242 walk through gates ,12373 metal detectors and 10640 CCTV cameras shall also be installed for security purposes.
