After blaming US for a foreign conspiracy to topple his government through a confidence vote, Imran Khan’s party is now seeking help from the United States.
The beleaguered party announced that members of US Congress approached Secretary of State Antony Blinken for a formal update on the imprisonment of Khan, who remained behind bars for more than a year.
A social media post from PTI USA handle confirmed that the letter was penned by Tom Suozzi, chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, alongside Congressman Jack Bergman. A picture of the alleged letter was also shared online.
US lawmakers asked Blinken to provide written information regarding PTI chief’s detention, and several reports concerning his alleged solitary confinement in Central Jail, Rawalpindi.
PTI now stressed urgency of request, noting that the co-chairs of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus have reached out to Blinken in light of numerous reports about Khan’s incarceration.
Khan, spent more than a year in Adiala Jail but remains influential in Pakistai politics. Despite overturned sentences and recognition of PTI as an official party, Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, remain behind bars in plethora of cases.
