ISLAMABAD – More widespread intermittent rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Pakistan on Wednesday evening/night and Thursday.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a well-marked low-pressure area (LPA) lies over eastern/northeastern Punjab (Pakistan). A westerly wave is also present over the upper parts of the country. Due to this weather system, strong monsoon currents are affecting most central and upper parts and are likely to persist during the next 24 to 36 hours.
Under these conditions, widespread intermittent rains are likely in the twin cities, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, northeast/south Balochistan, southeast/upper Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday evening/night and Thursday. Scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are likely in Islamabad, Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.
Hefty rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams/hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast/upper Punjab, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Kashmir, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Murree, Galiyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Swabi, Nowshera and Mardan. Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Nowshera, Peshawar and Islamabad/Rawalpindi. Windstorms may damage electric poles, trees, vehicles, solar panels and standing crops.
Islamabad’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 28°C and 30°C on Thursday and between 30°C and 32°C on Friday.
Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 26°C and 28°C on Thursday and between 28°C and 30°C on Friday.
Meanwhile, rains with heavy falls occurred in Islamabad, central/eastern Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.
