ISLAMABAD – More intermittent rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Pakistan on Thursday evening/night and Friday.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a low-pressure area (LPA) lies over central Punjab (Pakistan). A westerly wave is also present over the upper parts of the country. Due to this weather system, strong monsoon currents are affecting the upper parts and are likely to persist during the next 24 hours.
Under these conditions, more intermittent rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are likely in the twin cities, Pothohar region, Kashmir, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday evening/night and Friday.
Rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in central/south Punjab, northeast/south Balochistan and Sindh. Hefty rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams/hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast/upper Punjab, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Kashmir, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Murree, Galiyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Swabi, Nowshera and Mardan. Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Nowshera, Peshawar and Islamabad/Rawalpindi.
Islamabad’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 25°C and 27°C on Friday and Saturday.
Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 25°C and 27°C on Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, rains with heavy falls occurred in Islamabad, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.
