JERUSALEM/TEHRAN – The tensions flared again in the Middle East after Israel accused Iran of violating a recently agreed ceasefire by launching a missile attack.
Israel ordered its forces for a retaliatory military response.
According to Israeli media reports, the alleged Iranian missile was intercepted by Israel’s air defense system shortly after the ceasefire came into effect. The Israeli military confirmed the interception and said civilians had been directed to remain in secure locations until further notice. The country’s air defense remains on high alert amid fears of further escalation.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant accused Tehran of breaching the ceasefire agreement and announced that Israeli forces had been ordered to strike Iranian targets in response.
“We will respond to this violation by targeting key locations in central Tehran,” he said, emphasizing that Israel would not tolerate any breach of the truce.
On the other hand, Iranian state media rejected the Israeli claims, calling the reports of a missile attack post-ceasefire “fabricated and baseless”.
Iranian authorities insisted that no such attack had taken place after the ceasefire was enforced.
Responding to the allegations, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated that the Iranian military remains on high alert. “Our forces do not trust the enemy’s narratives. The military stands ready with its finger on the trigger to respond to any aggression,” the statement read.
The renewed accusations and threats of retaliation have raised concerns over the fragility of the ceasefire and the potential for a broader conflict in the region.
