TEHRAN – The Israeli military claimed that it killed one of Iran’s top military commanders, Ali Shadmani, in an attack carried out in Tehran, the international media reported on Tuesday.
Shadmani was Iran’s “most senior commander” and a close associate of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The Israeli military said Shadmani had recently been appointed as the head of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters — a position he assumed following the death of former commander Gholam Ali Rashid, who was reportedly killed in an Israeli strike last Friday.
However, the Iranian government has not yet issued an official response to the incident.
If Israel’s claim proves accurate, it would represent a significant blow to Iran’s military leadership and could signal a further escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
On other hand, the international news agencies reported that at the summit held in Canada, the G7 countries expressed strong support for Israel and accused Iran of contributing to regional instability,
In their joint statement, the G7 leaders emphasized the need to de-escalate tensions across the Middle East, called for a resolution to the Iran crisis, and stressed the importance of achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.
The statement also highlighted the significance of protecting civilians in conflict zones.
The G7 nations reiterated their long-standing stance that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and affirmed Israel’s right to self-defense. They also reaffirmed their support for Israel’s security.
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump reportedly refused to sign the G7 joint communiqué, which included an appeal to ease tensions between Israel and Iran.
