LAHORE – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman slammed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, saying PTI came in power after manipulated electoral process which eventually failed to restore law and order in region.
In a presser, Fazl expressed grave concern over the worsening security situation in KP. “People no longer feel safe. The province is plagued by lawlessness, and the current government lacks legitimacy,” he said.
JUI-F leader condemned recent incidents of violence, including assassination of a religious scholar in Bajaur. extended condolences to the victim’s family and stressed that his party rejects all forms of militancy and unconstitutional actions in the name of religion.
He said Balochistan is being ravaged by terrorism, Sindh is under the grip of banditry, and KP is sinking into chaos, calling the situation in these three provinces most alarming in the country.
He further confirmed that JUI-F is in early-stage discussions with both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for possible cooperation in the upcoming Senate elections, though no formal seat adjustment agreement has been reached.
Reflecting on the past, he said KP experienced relative peace and stability when JUI-F was part of the provincial government around 2010, with no need for extensive security measures such as checkpoints. Fazl said any significant improvement must come from within PTI itself due to its current majority. “We have political disagreements with PTI, but we are open to dialogue if they change their approach,” he added.
He also raised questions at merger of former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with KP, calling it a rushed decision made without proper national discourse. Rehman warned that the ongoing satellite-based land record mapping in the merged areas could create new disputes.
