ISLAMABAD – Justice Munib Akhtar on Friday sworn in as the acting Chief Justice of Pakistan due to CJP Qazi Faez Isa’s visit to Azerbaijan.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Supreme Court Judges Block with Justice Yahya Afridi administering the oath to Justice Akhtar.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa is scheduled to visit Azerbaijan from May 18 to 22 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting.
Justice Munib Akhtar is the second most senior judge after Justice Mansoor Ali Shah. As Justice Shah is also currently abroad, Justice Munib Akhtar has taken oath as acting CJP.
The oath ceremony was attended by Supreme Court judges and senior lawyers.
