KARACHI – A deeply disturbing incident of sexual assault has come to light at Karachi’s Civil Hospital, where a 14-year-old boy was allegedly raped by a lift operator inside the operation theatre complex.
According to initial reports, the victim, identified as Arman, had come to visit his ailing mother who was admitted in Surgical Ward No. 1 on the ground floor.
While heading towards the ward, he was lured by the lift operator, Abdul Waheed, who reportedly gave him Rs100 and took him inside the lift.
Sources say the operator stopped the elevator at the third and final floor, where he allegedly assaulted the boy. Arman was later sent back down by the accused.
Upon reaching the waiting area, the traumatized child broke down in tears and informed his father and uncle, who were waiting nearby. In a state of rage and anguish, the family confronted the accused, reportedly doused him with petrol, and attempted to set him on fire.
The hospital security staff intervened, subdued the situation, and handed over the suspect to police.
Abdul Waheed has since been taken into custody by officers from Eidgah Police Station.
In a crucial development, the police surgeon in Karachi has medically confirmed the sexual assault which strengthened the case against the accused.
The shocking incident has sparked outrage among citizens and civil society, raising serious questions about the safety of patients and visitors in government hospitals.
The victim’s family is demanding immediate justice and stringent action against the culprit, calling on authorities to ensure such crimes are never repeated in public health institutions..
