Leaders of regional political parties said that the authorities imposed restrictions on Kashmir Mar-tyrs’ Day to hinder their attendance at Mazar-e-Shuhada in Srinagar.
The National Conference in a tweet said, despite the restrictions placed on party Vice President Omar Abdullah, which denied him security vehicles and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) cover, he chose to walk from his home to the party office. His purpose was to address the party workers who had gathered there to pay their heartfelt tributes to the 1931 martyrs, it said.
Omar Abdullah, while tagging the Twitter han-dle of Indian police, said, “Don’t think that refusing to give me my escort vehicles and ITBP cover will stop me. I’ll walk to where I have to get to, and that’s exactly what I’m doing now.”
The Peoples Democratic Party President, Me-hbooba Mufti, was also barred by the authorities from paying homage to the martyrs of July 13, 1931.
The PDP said, “President Mehbooba Mufti has been put under house arrest, and curbs imposed on the movement of senior leaders.—KMS
