KE has announced that it will continue to provide loadshedding exemption for 70% of its service territory, following a quarterly review of its extensive network spanning over 2,000 feeders. The updated loadshedding schedule is now available on KE’s website and is effective immediately. Customers can also access the latest updates via the KE Live App and KE WhatsApp service.
The last review was conducted in March 2024. KE spokesperson highlighted, “We continue to maintain a close watch on our network through smart meters on our PMTs, which help us ascertain levels of electricity theft and bill payments in an area. Seventy percent of our network continues to receive uninterrupted power, whereas the maximum loadshed duration in high-loss areas remains fixed at 10 hours.”
Regular bill payments and reduced electricity theft have led to an improved power supply in certain areas. Regions such as Gulistan-e-Johar Block 20, Hakeem Villas Main Jinnah Avenue Malir Cantt, Surti Society Hashimabad, and Orangi Sector 11½ have become loadshedding exempt. Additionally, areas like Sachal Goth Suparco Road KDA Scheme-33 and Main Mosamiyat till Johar Complex – University Road will see a 4-hour reduction in loadshedding duration. KE is actively combating electricity theft and supporting customers.
The company has established facilitation camps across the city and conducted 30,000 removal drives to eliminate illegal connections, known as kundas, from its network. These efforts have resulted in the removal of 330,000 kilograms of kundas since the beginning of FY24. However, an increase in electricity theft and bill defaults in certain areas has led to an increase in loadshedding. Areas such as Zeeshan Society in Gadap, Millat Colony in Orangi, Sadiq Nagar in Gulshan, and Malik Society in Johar will no longer be loadshedding exempt.
Additionally, areas like Baldia Sector 9-C, 9-D, 9-F, and 9-A New Saeedabad, along with Chota Gate, Adam Gabol Goth, Abdul Kareem Gabol Goth, Liaquatabad #3 Commercial Area, Firdous Colony Nazimabad, and North Karachi Sector 11-F will experience a 4-hour increase in loadshedding duration.
KE remains committed to supporting those working to eradicate power theft, which is crucial for improving the power supply in high-loss regions. The spokesperson reiterated that the provision of “free electricity” is unsustainable in areas with low or declining bill payments.
