PESHAWAR – In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department on Wednesday announced the installation of CCTV cameras in all public dealing offices across the province.
The decision was made during a departmental review meeting held in Peshawar, where the health officials resolved to strengthen oversight and improve the monitoring of staff behavior and office operations.
According to Advisor to the Health Department, Ehtesham Ali, the initiative would begin with the installation of cameras in the offices of Medical Superintendents (MS) and District Health Officers (DHOs).
In addition, CCTV cameras will be installed at the Health Department Secretariat and all directorates within the next 15 days.
“This step is part of our broader efforts to bring transparency to the system and ensure accountability at every level,” Ehtesham Ali stated. “We are committed to maintaining professional standards and public trust in healthcare governance.”
The meeting also resulted in a significant policy decision regarding appointments to administrative positions. From now on, all such appointments will be made through a transparent and merit-based process. A placement committee will be formed to shortlist three candidates for every vacant post, with final selections made following comprehensive interviews.
Ehtesham Ali stressed that political recommendations or external influence will not be tolerated in the hiring process. “We are taking every possible measure to enforce merit and transparency within the department, and these decisions will be strictly implemented,” he said.
The move has widely been welcomed as a step toward reforming the public healthcare system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has long struggled with issues of inefficiency and lack of oversight.
