University of Karachi’s Academic Council has decided to grant a final opportunity for students to appear in BA, BSc, BCom, and MA examinations until 2025. The decision was made during the first academic council meeting of 2025, chaired by KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi at the Chinese Teachers Memorial Auditorium. Members were informed that the Higher Education Commission had discontinued two-year degree programs in 2019, but no official regulations were issued regarding the registration period.
While KU stopped offering these programs the same year, some enrolled students had yet to complete their degrees. Based on recommendations from a previously formed committee, 2024 and 2025 were declared the final years for these examinations, with no further chances beyond 2025. Similarly, students who enrolled in the three-year LLB program in 2018 or earlier will be allowed to take exams in 2024, 2025, and 2026. However, no exams for this program will be conducted after 2026, and no new enrollments have taken place since 2018.
The council also appointed Dr Sakina Riaz and Professor Dr Intikhab Ulfat as academic representatives on the Discipline Committee for a two-year term. Additionally, Professor Dr Muhammad Haris Shoaib and Dr Sabohi Raza were nominated to serve on the Board of Governors of the Institute of Clinical Psychology for the same duration. The meeting further approved the minutes of the previous Academic Council meeting held on December 3, 2024, and the Equivalence Committee meeting on January 13, 2025.
