LAHORE – Bhakkar sizzled at 50°C as severe heatwaves prevailed across Punjab on Tuesday.
Lahore experiences the hottest day of this season with mercury rising as high as 46°C.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. High pressure in the upper atmosphere prevails over the country, which will continue to persist during the next two days.
Under these weather conditions, severe heatwaves will likely persist in Lahore and most districts of Punjab on Wednesday and Thursday. Gusty winds are expected during the afternoon.
Day temperatures will likely remain between 05°C and 07°C above normal levels in central & upper Punjab, while between 04°C and 06°C above normal levels in southern Punjab till Thursday.
Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 45°C and 47°C on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Public has been advised to remain hydrated and avoid going outdoors during the daytime between 1100 am to 0400 pm.
Meanwhile, heatwaves prevailed in Lahore and most districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.
Bhakkar remained the hottest place in Punjab, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 50°C. The maximum temperature in Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Layyah and Mandi Bahauddin was recorded at 48°C, and in Bahawalnagar, Chakwal, Joharabad, Khanewal, Kot Addu, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Jhelum at 47°C.
In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 46°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 23 per cent.
