KARACHI – Car owners wil face higher registration charges in Punjab in Budget 2025–26 as the government is making all out efforts to boost revenue.
All car owners including Suzuki, Honda, and Toyota vehicles will face higher registration fees under upcoming provincial budget for fiscal year 2025–26. Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department proposed massive fee increases targeting popular car brands with engines of various capacities.
Cars Registration Fee Update
Engine Capacity | Price Range |
Up to 1000cc | 1,200 – 5,000 |
1001cc to 1800cc | 2,000 – 11,000 |
Above 1800cc | 3,000 – 22,000 |
Heavy Transport Vehicles | 4,000 – 11,000 |
According to the proposal, registration fees for cars up to 1000cc—which includes many Suzuki models—could rise from Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 5,000.
For mid-range vehicles, such as many Honda models with engines between 1001cc and 1800cc, fees may increase from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 11,000. Larger vehicles, including some Toyota models above 1800cc, might see registration fees jump from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 22,000.
Motorcycle registration fees are also expected to increase, though exact details will be revealed when the budget is officially presented.
The proposed hikes have raised concerns among car owners and industry experts who warn that the increases could dampen vehicle sales and impact the local automobile market. However, officials insist the fee revisions are necessary to improve transparency and reduce fraudulent registrations.
Final approval of these changes will be determined in the upcoming cabinet meeting and budget session.
