ISLAMABAD – The Air travel across the Middle East has been severely affected due to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, prompting several countries and airlines to suspend or cancel flights to and from the region.
Saudi Airlines has cancelled all scheduled flights to Iran and Iraq for June 16 and 17, citing security concerns.
A similar move has been taken by airlines from Russia, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan, all of which have suspended operations to both Iran and Iraq.
Qatar Airways has also temporarily suspended flights to Iran, Iraq, and Syria until further notice, while Emirates Airlines announced that its flights to Israel, Iran, and Iraq will remain suspended until June 20. German carriers have extended their suspension of flights to Israel, Iran, Iraq, Oman, and Lebanon.
In a similar development, Turkish Airlines has suspended its flights to Iran until June 19, joining the growing list of international carriers avoiding the region’s airspace.
The widespread cancellations and suspensions have left thousands of passengers stranded, particularly those travelling for business, family visits, or religious purposes. Airports across the region are witnessing delays, rebookings, and growing uncertainty
The aviation authorities in affected countries have confirmed that they are closely monitoring the volatile situation and will issue further guidance as developments unfold.
