Mardan Marble Industries Association (MMIA) has demanded from the federal government to postpone the decision of fuel price adjustment till March 7 in the light of recommendations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly. Officials of the association Younis Manager and other MPAs have also moved a resolution in the provincial assembly.
The text of the resolution states that the power generation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is from hydel. But unfortunately the Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) surcharge on electricity bills of the poor people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been being collected regularly for a long time now.
This is an abuse of the people of this province and a gross violation of the 18th Amendment. Therefore, this assembly recommends to the provincial government to recommend to the federal government to immediately remove the FPA surcharge from the electricity bills of the people of the province. And refund or rebate the amount received.
The Provincial Assembly should submit the report to the Assembly Secretariat in two months from January 7 to March 7, the day the resolution is passed by the concerned department as per Business Rules 1988 under the procedure of Rule 135 of Sub-Rule 3. Officials of the association demanded the federal government to postpone the decision on fuel price adjustment till March 7, when the report is submitted to the assembly.
He said that marble industries were already in decline due to innumerable problems and taxes. Now with the fuel price adjustment, the marble industries will be on the verge of further collapse. Therefore, the government should abolish the FPA to save the marble industries and millions of workers from becoming unemployed. So that the marble industries can avoid closure.
