ISLAMABAD – More intermittent monsoon rains and windstorms with isolated heavy falls are predicted in Pakistan till July 01.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate most parts of Pakistan, which will intensify in the upper parts tonight. A westerly wave will approach the upper parts of the country tonight.
Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, monsoon rains, which started on June 25, will continue intermittently in Pakistan till July 01.
Widespread monsoon rains and windstorms with isolated heavy falls are predicted in Kashmir, northeast Punjab, Potohar region, Islamabad and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa till July 01 with occasional gaps. Rains and gusty winds are also likely at isolated places in northeast/south Balochistan, central/south Punjab and southeastern/lower Sindh during the period.
Heavy to very heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.
Downpour may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams and hill torrents of Musakhel, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Lasbella and Kalat. Windstorm and lightning may affect daily routines and may damage weak structures like dilapidated houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels during the forecast period.
Landslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir during the wet spell.
