ISLAMABAD – More widespread monsoon rains with heavy to hefty falls are likely in Pakistan till July 25.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents are penetrating Sindh and the upper parts of the country, which will likely intensify in the upper and central parts on July 20. A fresh westerly wave will likely approach the upper parts on July 21.
Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, widespread monsoon rains of varying intensities are likely in Pakistan from tonight to July 25 with occasional gaps.
Sindh: Intermittent rains with isolated moderate to heavy falls are expected in Tharparker, Umer Kot, Mirpur Khas, Mithi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Karachi, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Sanghar, Sukkur, Ghotki and Larkana from July 18th (night) to 20th July.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Intermittent rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu and Kurram from July 21 to July 25.
Kashmir/Gilgit-Baltistan: Intermittent rains with isolated heavy falls are expected in Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur) from July 29 to July 25. Intermittent rains with isolated heavy falls are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar) from July 21 to July 26.
Punjab/Islamabad: Intermittent rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali from July 20 to July 25. Intermittent rains are also likely in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, Kot Addu and Layyah on July 18 and July 19 & from July 21 to July 23.
Balochistan: Intermittent rains are expected in Lasbella, Awaran, Khuzdar, Quetta, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah, Ziarat, Kalat, Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai and Barkhan on July 18 and July 19 & from July 22 to July 25.
Impacts: Heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast Punjab and Kashmir from 21st to 25th July.
Downpour may cause urban flooding in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Okara, Nowshera and Peshawar from 21st to 25th July. Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from 21st to 25th July.
Heavy falls/windstorm and lightning may damage dilapidated buildings and structures like electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels. Public, travellers and tourists are advised to avoid unusual exposure to vulnerable areas and keep updated about the latest weather conditions.
