ISLAMABAD – More widespread monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Pakistan on Thursday evening/night and Friday.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents penetrate the upper and central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also affects the upper and central parts of the country.
Under these conditions, more widespread monsoon rains are expected in the twin cities, Kashmir, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast and south Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday evening/night and Friday, with occasional gaps.
Heavy rains are also expected at isolated places in northeast and southern Punjab, northern Balochistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the period. Heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast Punjab, Kashmir and Balochistan (Barkhan, Kohlu, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Sibi, Loralai, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Panjgur and Turbat).
Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir. Heavy rains may also cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar.
Islamabad’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 32°C and 34°C on Friday and between 34°C and 36°C on Saturday.
Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 31°C and 33°C on Friday and between 33°C and 35°C on Saturday.
Meanwhile, rains and gusty winds with isolated heavy falls occurred in the twin cities, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, northeastern Balochistan and Sindh during the last 24 hours.

Nokkundi remained the hottest place in Pakistan, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 46°C. The maximum temperature in Dalbandin was recorded at 45°C, in Dadu at 43°C, and in Sibbi at 42°C.
In Islamabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 92 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 31°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 84 per cent.
