Taking serious notice of killing of journalist Arshad Sharif, the National Assembly on Monday adopted a unanimous resolution, strongly condemning the brutal killing and demanded to properly probe the incident.
The Resolution, moved by Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Marri, called for an independent and impartial inquiry into the incident. It demanded that a fair and transparent investigation should be conducted to ascertain facts behind this brutal killing.
The House also extended deepest condolences to the family of the deceased journalist and the media community.
Meanwhile, speaking at floor of the National Assembly, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has assured the National Assembly that Foreign Office is closely monitoring the situation pertaining to the killing of senior journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya.
Welcoming the newly elected Members of the House, the Foreign Minister said we collectively defeated the lies and negative propaganda being spread by our opponents. He said the previous government led by PTI not only ruined the country’s economy, but also brought Pakistan to the brink of default. He said we, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saved the country from default. The Foreign Minister also felicitated the Hindu community of Pakistan on the eve of Happy Deewali.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman told the national assembly that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan was hiding his corruption under the garb of his claims of powerless rule.
He (Imran Khan) who was disqualified in the Tosha Khana misappropriation case was still calling his opponents as looters, Sherry Rehman said. Imran Khan was guilty of corrupt practices and misdeclaration, she added. “Imran Khan is threatening long march only to influence institutions and decisions. He know that people are not coming out for his personal political interests. Imran Khan has been constantly looking for excuses to cancel the call for long march for the last six months,” Sherry Rehman said.
The National Assembly resumed its session at the Parliament House with Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in the chair. PPP leaders Syed Ali Musa Gillani and Abdul Hakeem Baloch took oath as Members of the National Assembly.
Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf administered the oath. The House offered fateha for the departed souls of senior journalist Arshad Sharif, officials of security forces, and others. Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali led the fateha.
After taking oath, the newly elected Member National Assembly Syed Ali Musa Gillani thanked the people of Multan for reposing trust in him to represent them in the Lower House of Pakistan.
He also called for collective efforts to control political polarization, hatred and indecency.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Hakeem Baloch said the politics of hatred cannot go anymore in Pakistan. He said the people of Malir and Multan have collectively defeated the indecency and lies.
The House has now been prorogued.
