ISLAMABAD – The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to hold a meeting today, June 26, for the sighting of the moon for Muharram 2025 that will mark the start of new Islamic year 1147 AH.
The central meeting will take place at the deputy commissioner’s office in Quetta under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad.
The zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will convene simultaneously at their respective headquarters across the country.
In Islamabad, the zonal committee of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) will hold its meeting at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony,.
The ministry has requested that all information related to the moon’s position be promptly shared via designated landline and mobile numbers to facilitate the official moon-sighting announcement.
Suparco Predictions
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted that the Muharram-ul-Haram moon is likely to be sighted on the evening of June 26, 2025.
The SUPARCO spokesperson said that the new moon is expected to be born on June 25, 2025, at 3:32 PM Pakistan Standard Time.
On June 26, he said, at the time of sunset, the moon would be approximately 28 hours and 15 minutes old, making it easily visible in most parts of the country under clear weather conditions.
Ashura 2025 Dates
If the moon is sighted on June 26, the first day of Muharram 1447 AH will fall on Friday, June 27, 2025. In this situation, Ashura 2025, which is marked on 10th of Muharram, is expected to be observed on July 6, 2025 Sunday in Pakistan.

If the Muharram moon is sighted today evening, the Ashura holidays will be observed on July 5 and 6 across Pakistan.
Muharram in Saudi Arabia
A day earlier, Muharram crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, and New Islamic Year starts on June 26 Thursday.
Saudi Arabia officially announced that Muharram will start from tomorrow after sighting of the crescent moon that signals the start of first Islamic month.
The Islamic, or Hijri, New Year marks historic migration of the Prophet Muhammad SAW from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD, and journey, which established the foundations of the first Muslim community, marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.
