ISLAMABAD – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday took a significant step ahead of the hearing of appeals filed against the sentences of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the 190 million pounds case.
The sources said that NAB constituted a special prosecution team to assist the Islamabad High Court during the hearing of appeals and applications for suspension of sentences filed by Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
With the approval of NAB Chairman, Prosecutor General Syed Ishtiaq Qadir Shah has directed the formation of a five-member special prosecution team.
The team would be led by Sardar Muzafar Ahmed Khan and other members included Irfan Ahmed, Sohail Arif, Rafiq Maqsood and Yasir Saleem Rana.
NAB stated that this team would present and defend NAB’s position before the court during the scheduled hearing on June 5.
It may be mentioned here that Imran Khan and his wife have filed appeals against their convictions, and their legal team has also requested suspension of the sentences, which would be heard by the Islamabad High Court on June 5.
Beside it, in a separated development but related to Imran Khan, a 12-member Lahore Police team, led by DSP Asif Javed, reached Adiala Jail in connection with the polygraph test of PTI founder.
The police team had approached Imran Khan three times before for the polygraph test but he had refused in writing to undergo the test.
Three inspectors are part of the team while Abid Ayub from the Punjab Forensic Unit is also part of it.
The sources within jail department said the investigation team is tasked with conducting the polygraph test, photogrammetric and voice matching tests of the PTI founder related to the cases dated May 9.
The team is making every possible effort to fulfill the requirements of justice.
