ISLAMABAD – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday issued its much-anticipated decision regarding a reduction in base tariff of electricity.
According to the newly approved rates, the average base tariff has been cut by Rs1.14 per unit. However, lifeline consumers, who typically use up to 100 units of electricity per month, will not benefit from this reduction.

The non-protected domestic consumers using up to 100 units will pay Rs22.44 per unit while it will cost Rs28.91 to those using up to 200 units.
Similarly, the consumers falling in category of 201–300 units will pay Rs33.10/unit while above 300 units (TOU – Time of Use), the rate will be Rs41.78/unit.
Base Tariff for Commercial Consumers
The base tariff for commercial consumers has been fixed at Rs45.43 per unit and it will be Rs43.17 per unit for General Service.
The Industrial Consumers will pay Rs33.48/unit while it will be Rs30.75 for agricultural consumers and Rs41.76 per unit for Bulk consumers.
NEPRA has forwarded the decision to the federal government for notification, after which it will be officially enforced. The new rates reflect the government’s attempt to balance public expectations amid inflation while maintaining sustainability for power producers.
