LAHORE – Authorities in Punjab are taking all-out measures to curb property tax evasion, and now a new legislation has introduced monetary reward system for whistleblowers and incentivizes departmental action against tax-related misconduct.
The new legislation allows individuals who provide inside or any credible information leading to the discovery of property tax evasion to receive financial rewards. This initiative aims to encourage greater public participation in identifying and reporting corruption, bribery, and underreporting in the province’s tax system.
Punjab New bill is another step forward in involving public in efforts to improve revenue collection and close long-standing loopholes.
Officials within Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department will also benefit from the amendment, as those who detect and act against tax evasion will be eligible for performance-based incentives.
A major provision in bill mandates that in proven cases of tax evasion, the concerned Collector must identify officer responsible for negligence or failure to act, ensuring greater accountability within department amid broader reform effort to strengthen tax enforcement and transparency in governance system.
