LAHORE – The Punjab government has launched free emission testing system for vehicles in Lahore in order to encourage people to get their vehicles inspected.
The initiative aims at improving the health quality as the city faces several air pollution and smog situation in winter months.
The Environment Protection Department has setup eight centres in different areas of Lahore to facilitate the vehicle owners, saying the free emission testing will be available for the period of one month.

New Timings of Emission Centres
The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has changed the timings of emission testing centres due to weather conditions.
The vehicle testing will be available in two shifts at all points except Bahria Town centres. The working hours for the first shift will be 7:30am to 12:30pm while the second shift will operate from 5pm to 10:30pm.
However, the working hours for the Bahria Town centre will be 4:00pm to 9:30 pm.
Earlier this week, EPA started emission tests of parliamentarians’ vehicles with the aim to reduce emissions and improve air quality.
On clearance of emission test, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan pasted sticker on his vehicle to start the campaign supervised by EPA Director General Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh.
On the first day of the campaign, EPA teams conducted emission tests of over 150 vehicles of MPAs. Special green stickers were pasted on vehicles on clearance of emission tests.
Imran Hamid Sheikh said that seven days were given for improving fitness in case of failure of emission tests. He said that purpose of ongoing campaign was to check vehicular emissions.
He said that the EPA has so far checked over 11,000 vehicles at eight different places in Lahore since the start of campaign on April 17. He said that the campaign would be extended to entire province.
