Pakistan Muslim League-N on Saturday raised objections over the intra-party elections held by the rival party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in line with the directives of the Election Commission.
The reaction comes after Barrister Gohar Ali Khan got elected unopposed chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb called the PTI intra-party polls a process of
“selection” saying it was completed in a blink of eye. She termed it an attempt by the PTI to deceive its workers.
“It was strange election which was held at a secret place with no voters list, presiding officer,” she said. The founding leaders and workers of the PTI were excluded from the election process out of fear, the PML-N bigwig quipped.
“It is called selection and dictatorship and it is nothing but a joke with founding members of the party as there was no level playing field for them,” she said, adding that transparency in the intra-party elections should be out in the open.
Meanwhile, the founding leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Akbar S Babar, on Saturday announced to challenge PTI’s intra-party elections by filing an application with the Election Commission.
Speaking to the media, he expressed concern about irregularities in the PTI intra-party elections and mentioned that the application in this regard would be submitted to the Election Commission in the coming days.
Babar asserted his position as a founding leader of PTI based on a High Court verdict.
The Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party on Saturday also denounced the intra-party polls of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Expressing her thoughts, Firdous Ashiq Awan hoped the Election Commission of Pakistan will take notice of the intra-party polls. “The PTI intra-polls are against the constitution and law,” Firdous added.
“The ECP should take strict action against the PTI over the intra-party polls,” she said.
Firdous talked about the appointment of Barrister Gohar Ali Khan as the PTI chairman. “The appointment of Barrister Gohar as the PTI chief without any process is against the party’s manifesto and democratic traditions,” she lamented.
