ISLAMABAD – Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir vowed strong and decisive response to what he termed as India’s resort to proxy warfare after its defeat on battlefield in May.
The country’s top general chaired 71st Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at General Headquarters (GHQ) where he emphasized that any attempts to destabilize Pakistan through indirect means would be met with full force, reaffirming the military’s commitment to national security.
The military standoff was triggered earlier this year when India blamed Islamabad for deadly attack in Pahalgam. Tensions peaked in early May when Indian jets carried out airstrikes on Pakistani territory, reportedly causing civilian casualties. This led to a week-long exchange of missiles between both sides before a U.S.-brokered ceasefire restored calm.

Pak Army’s top brass paid tribute to the martyrs of recent attacks carried out by what they termed “Indian-sponsored proxies.” The commanders vowed that the blood of the fallen would not be in vain, reiterating that Pakistan’s security remains the Army’s top priority.
CCC also addressed recent claims by Indian military officials, including an allegation that China had assisted Pakistan during the conflict. Field Marshal Munir rejected these statements as an attempt to internationalize a bilateral issue and deflect from India’s strategic failures.
“Invoking third parties in a direct conflict reflects India’s efforts to manipulate regional politics and paint itself as a net security provider while pushing an extremist, Hindutva-driven agenda,” the ISPR quoted the Army Chief as saying.
The military leaders reviewed internal and external security challenges, focusing on emerging threats in the Middle East and Iran. Emphasis was placed on building self-reliant defense capabilities and fostering national unity in the face of evolving global tensions.
Field Marshal Munir also commended the Pakistan Navy and Air Force for strengthening inter-service coordination and highlighted recent diplomatic engagements with Iran, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the U.S. He termed his visit to Washington “historic,” noting it offered Pakistan a chance to present its perspective on global security directly to U.S. leadership.
Concluding the conference, the Army Chief expressed full confidence in the operational preparedness of Pakistan’s armed forces and reaffirmed their commitment to counter all forms of aggression and terrorism.
