LAHORE – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is exploring new windows for the 11th and 12th editions of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), aiming to avoid scheduling conflicts with major international cricket events, the sources said on Wednesday.
The sources said that the PCB is proposing to hold the 11th edition of the PSL between December 2025 and January 2026. This adjustment is intended to prevent overlaps with other global tournaments and ensure the league maintains a strong viewer base.
Similarly, the 12th edition of the PSL is likely to be scheduled between January and February 2027. However, officials have emphasized that these dates are tentative and may be revised in accordance with the international cricket calendar.
In a significant development, the 2026 edition of the PSL may feature eight teams instead of the current six, as part of the PCB’s efforts to expand the tournament and boost its popularity.
Additionally, the sources said that the PCB is planning to host exhibition matches in Peshawar during the 2026 season. The matches, they said, could not be held in the city during the current season due to the substandard condition of the stadium, but improvements are expected to make it a viable venue in the near future.
This year, the sources said, the PSL faced a scheduling reshuffle due to Pakistan’s hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. They said as a result, the league was pushed forward, leading to an overlap with the Indian Premier League (IPL), which affected viewership and logistics.
The PCB is actively working on ensuring that future editions of the PSL are strategically timed to avoid such conflicts and to further elevate the league’s status in the global cricketing landscape, they added.
