HUNZA – In a move to facilitate mountaineers and tourists, the government has installed the first-ever cellphone tower at the base camp of K2, the second highest peak in the world.
The task was carried out by the Special Communication Organization, a government entity that works under the Ministry of Interior.
The facility will make climbers able to use their cell phones while ascending the peak in order to remain in contact with their team members as well with the base camp.
Previously, the mountaineers were dependent on satellite phones for contact with the base camp and they often lost contacts due to harsh weather condition.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that 4G internet services will be launched in the region to facilitate the people.
