WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump once again showers praise on Pakistan, calling it a “great country” and highlighting its strategic significance as a nuclear power.
His remarks came ahead of a rare and high-profile meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal General Asim Munir, scheduled for Wednesday at the White House.
“I like Pakistan very much. It’s a nuclear power,” Trump said, adding that he “loves the country” and has great respect for its people. He emphasized the role of Pakistani leadership in maintaining peace in South Asia, particularly crediting General Munir for helping to avert a potential war with neighboring India.

Trump called COAS Fiedl Marshal Asim Munir as most influential man on this side, drawing a comparison with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the opposing side. He said that both leaders played key roles in de-escalating what he referred to as the “worst fighting in decades” between the two nuclear-armed countries.
The ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India came after US-led efforts to encourage diplomacy over confrontation. He claimed that Washington’s behind-the-scenes mediation was instrumental in urging both sides to prioritize trade and stability.
Indian officials have pushed back against Trump’s version of events. India’s senior-most diplomat stated that the ceasefire resulted from direct talks between Indian and Pakistani military officials and not through any external mediation. The upcoming one-on-one lunch between Trump and General Munir marks an unusual level of engagement between a US president and Pakistan’s military leadership, underscoring the strategic relevance of Islamabad in regional and global affairs.
