STOCKHOLM – Pakistan and Sweden held 19th round of Bilateral Political Consultations in Stockholm, focusing on trade, regional security, and innovation-led cooperation.
Two sides held 19th round of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) today at Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening longstanding partnership built on shared democratic values and mutual interests.
Pakistani delegation was led by Ambassador Muhammad Ayub, Additional Secretary (Europe), while Swedish side was led by Ambassador Mikael Lindvall, Director General for Global Affairs. During his visit, Ambassador Ayub also paid a courtesy call on Mr. Dag Hartelius, State Secretary to the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Two sides held in-depth discussions on a wide range of bilateral, regional, and global issues. Topics included political dialogue, economic cooperation, trade and investment, consular affairs, and people-to-people linkages. Both sides expressed satisfaction over recent developments, such as the resumption of consular services by the Swedish Embassy in Islamabad and events celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Particular emphasis was placed on expanding collaboration in key sectors, including renewable energy, sustainable technologies, waste management, information and communication technology (ICT), and research and development. Both parties acknowledged the growing importance of innovation in agriculture and committed to exploring joint initiatives in that area.
Regional and global security dynamics were also discussed. Ambassador Ayub provided a detailed briefing on the evolving situation in South Asia, including concerns over recent Indian military actions and the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India. He emphasized Pakistan’s stance on peaceful conflict resolution through dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to international law and the UN Charter.
The talks underscored the strong and evolving partnership between Pakistan and Sweden. Officials on both sides agreed to maintain momentum in high-level exchanges and consultations, further reinforcing cooperation on regional and multilateral platforms.
The Bilateral Political Consultations continue to serve as a key mechanism for deepening understanding, aligning strategic priorities, and fostering closer ties between Islamabad and Stockholm.
