ISLAMABAD – Pakistani authorities continue to tighten noose around illegal Cars and now vehicles with Fake Chassis Numbers will be burned.
Senate Standing Committee endorsed legal proposal included in the latest Finance Bill that classifies vehicles with tampered chassis numbers or new official seals as illegal in major crackdown.
FBR Chairman said any vehicle found with tampered chassis numbers or replaced seals will be deemed smuggled and unlawful. Such vehicles, even if registered with any motor registration authority, will have their registration declared invalid.
The authorities will seize these vehicles and order their destruction, with a recommendation that the vehicles be destroyed within 30 days of confiscation. The committee emphasized that seized vehicles should be set on fire to prevent the illegal sale of spare parts. Additionally, once seized, these vehicles cannot be re-auctioned.
The stern move aims to curb the rising cases of vehicle smuggling and ensure stricter enforcement of motor vehicle regulations across Pakistan.
Last year, Customs introduced policy restricting government officials from using smuggled and tampered vehicles seized by Customs to prevent misuse of authority. The policy cancels No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for all such vehicles and limits the number of cars each Customs Intelligence office can use.
It was decided that tourists will be allowed to keep their vehicles in Pakistan duty-free for up to three months, provided they submit a declaration that they will not transfer ownership during their stay.
