The 89th meeting of the Council of Complaint (CoC) of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) was held here on Thursday at the PEMRA headquarters. In the CoC meeting, anchorpersons’ complaints against TV channels were taken up.
The CoC considering complaints by senior journalist Imtiaz Alam against Geo, Rauf Klasra’s complaint against Talon News, Sami Ibrahim, Imran Wasim and other journalists’ complaints against Bol News and Imtiaz Ali and Syed Arif Raza Zaidi’s complaints against LTN Family directed the LTN Family to pay the dues to the complainants within 30 days.
The council also asked the other complainants to submit their points of view in the next meeting of the CoC. The PEMRA CoC meeting was significant in the sense that after the last year’s amendments in the PEMRA Act, it has been empowered to take up the applications/complaints of the workers and employees of the electronic media channels and issue recommendations/directions in this regard. In case of non-compliance, the CoC can recommend a penalty/fine against the channel concerned.
The PEMRA CoC meeting was chaired by Syed Muhammad Ali while among the members included Fauzia Shahid, Gauhar Zahid Malik, Ashfaq Ahmed Rana, Kiwan Hamid Raja, Dr Surriya Kanwal Afridi, Dr Basit Riaz Sheikh, Afzal Butt and Regional Director/Secretary Saeed Ahmed Soomro. DG Operations, Broadcast, Media and Public Relations Muhammad Tahir and Head Legal Tahir Farooq also attended the CoC meeting.
