PESHAWAR – Significant rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday evening/night and the next two days with occasional gaps.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate Pakistan. A strong westerly wave will also enter the upper and central parts of the country.
Under these conditions, rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kohat, Orakzai, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Kurram, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan on Sunday evening/night.
On Monday and Tuesday, intermittent rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Kurram, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan.
Heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Galiyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi and Mardan. Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas.
Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Nowshera and Peshawar. Windstorm may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles and solar panels. The public is advised to remain cautious.
Peshawar’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 38°C and 40°C on Monday and between 36°C and 38°C on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, hot and humid weather prevailed in Peshawar and most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.
Bannu remained the hottest place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 63 per cent.
The maximum temperature in Peshawar was recorded at 39°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 75 per cent.
