PESHAWAR – Widespread rains with heavy and at times hefty falls are expected in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday evening/night and Thursday with occasional gaps.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a well-marked low-pressure area (LPA) lies over eastern/northeastern Punjab (Pakistan). A westerly wave is also present over the upper parts of the country. Due to this weather system, strong monsoon currents are affecting most central and upper parts and are likely to persist during the next 24 to 36 hours.
Under these conditions, widespread rains are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Kurram, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan on Wednesday evening/night and Thursday with occasional gaps.
Scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are also likely during the forecast period. Hefty rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Murree, Galiyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Swabi, Nowshera and Mardan. Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas. Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Nowshera and Peshawar. Windstorms may damage electric poles, trees, vehicles, solar panels and standing crops.
Peshawar’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 32°C and 34°C on Thursday and between 34°C and 36°C on Friday.
