WPC terms Women Safety App an excellent tool for woman safety

Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that prevention of crimes against women and children is the top priority of Punjab Police.
“All out steps are being taken to eradicate crime against women and children including effective utilisation of modern technology.”
IG Police Rao Sardar Ali was talking to members of a delegation of Women Peace Council (WPC) who called on him at Central Police Office here on Thursday.
The delegation consisted of Patron-in-Chief Women Peace Council, Begum Parveen Sarwar, Chairperson Standing Committee on Gender Mainstreaming, Punjab Assembly, Uzma Kardar, Syed Kausar Abbas (Executive Director SSDO), Dr. Maryam Kayani and Ayesha Jahanzeb.
The IG Police declared that women can avail police help in case of any emergency with just one click through this Woman Safety App across the province.
He also said: “Anti-Women Harassment and Violence Cells” have also been set up in all districts of the province to facilitate the victims. These cells are ensuring speedy investigations of cases in such crimes.
The IGP said that a database of habitual offenders in crime against women and children is being prepared so criminals involved in such cases could be closely monitored.
Refresher courses and modern training workshops are being conducted to enhance capacity of gender crime investigation officers.
Rao Sardar Ali said that Mutual cooperation of Punjab Police, NGOs and civil society is the need of the hour to prevent gender crime.
The IG Police further said that a special campaign is being launched in schools, colleges, universities and madrassas across Punjab to create awareness about the Bad and Good touch among the students and special police teams are visiting educational institutions in this regard.
On the occasion, the WPC Patron-in-Chief said that Punjab Police Women Safety App is an excellent tool for woman safety and Woman Peace Council has been regularly raising awareness in Schools, Colleges, Universities and other educational institutions against the menace.
She further said that capacity building courses for investigation officers dealing with such cases should be conducted so that they may know how to deal with these cases and victims as well.
Punjab DIG Traffic Police Sohail Akhtar claimed on Thursday that in line with vision of the Punjab IG Police, the process of obtaining driving license has been computerized for convenience of the citizens.
“Transparency has been introduced in professional matters so that the citizens can easily get their license without any hassle.”
He said that any kind of corruption in the process of driving licence issuance is unacceptable and strict departmental and legal action would be taken against any officer or official found involved in such irregularities.

DRIVING LICENCE ISSUANCE
Punjab DIG Traffic Police Sohail Akhtar issued the instructions while addressing DTOs across Punjab at Traffic Police Headquarters here.
During the meeting, licence and other traffic issues were discussed in detail and important decisions regarding driving licence were taken in the meeting.
He added that state-of-the-art cameras will be installed in the areas of driving test to record CCTV footage of the entire process.
The DIG traffic directed all DTOs of the province to spend only two hours in their office and spend rest of the time in the field.
Driving test will be conducted two days in a week whereas DTOs will remain in the field for four hours in order to control accidents.
He said that commercial test would not be conducted in the absence of DTOs while driving licence fee boards would be hung in all the districts for the convenience of the citizens and a reward of Rs10,000 will be given to the person who will highlight or provide proof of corruption.
He stressed that the medical certificates of the drivers would not be forged in any case and compliance with the SOPs issued in this regard will be ensured in all cases.
