LAHORE – If you are planning to buy or sell property in Punjab, there is bad new for you as provincial authorities made big changes for real estate market.
Punjab government imposed new property taxes across the region, including Lahore, while increasing official DC (Deputy Commissioner) property rates by 5% for property transfers.
According to official sources, the revised DC rates will apply to all property transactions starting today. Under new taxation structure, the seller will now be required to pay 4.5pc federal tax on sale of property, whereas buyers will be liable to pay a 1.5% withholding tax upon purchase.
These changes are said to impact property transactions across urban and rural areas of Punjab, as citizens must now process property transfers in accordance with the updated rates.
Real estate stakeholders have expressed concerns about the increased financial burden, warning that the move could slow down property market activity in the short term.
The government, however, maintains that the revisions are aimed at increasing transparency and boosting revenue from the real estate sector.
