MUSCAT – Oman has announced a public holiday for all employees in the public and private sectors on June 29, 2025, on the occasion of the beginning of the new Hijri year 1447 AH.
This announcement was made through an official decision issued by theMinistry of Labour, stating that the holiday will apply equally to all government and private institutions so that people may observe this sacred occasion with religious spirit, unity, and spiritual peace.
The ministry also clarified that if any institution, due to the nature of its work, wishes to engage employees on the holiday, it may only do so with mutual consent and by providing appropriate financial compensation.
This especially applies to institutions providing essential services such as hospitals, airports, security, transportation, and others.
The ministry said that the announcement regarding the sighting of the Muharram moon will be made later by the relevant authorities.
Earlier, the government of the United Arab Emirates officially declared Friday, June 27, as a public holiday on the occasion of the beginning of the Islamic year 1447 Hijri.
