LAHORE – The Punjab government has paced up efforts to launch the much-awaited electric taxi scheme that aims at combating environmental pollution and promote sustainable transportation.
The initiative is set to be first electric taxi service in Pakistan. It is part of a global shift away from traditional fuel-based vehicles toward cleaner, electric alternatives.
Recently, Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan chaired a steering committee to review the progress of the e-taxi project.
The meeting included detailed briefings on various electric vehicle models, their prices, and technical specifications. Discussions also covered plans for electric vehicle charging stations and suggestions to further enhance the scheme’s success.
E-Taxi Scheme First Phase
In the first phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed across the province, including Lahore.
Installment Plans
The minister said the e-taxis will be provided on interest-free, easy installments to make it affordable to people. However, he did not share the details of vehicle cost, per month installment and others.
The minister emphasized that the scheme will be launched with simple eligibility requirements to ensure wide public participation. An official advertisement campaign to introduce the project to the public is expected in the coming weeks.
Launch Date
The government has not officially announced any launch date for the e-Taxi Scheme 2025. However, it is expected to be launched later this year.
The e-taxi initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and modernizing the transportation sector through eco-friendly solutions.
