LAHORE – Schools and other educational institutions used to be closed for around two weeks every year in Punjab in wake of winter vacations in order to save students and staff from harsh weather conditions and its related diseases.
The Schools Education Department, as per the previous record, used to announced the winter holidays in December, the last month of a calendar year, with schools reopening in in January.
Mercury dropped 7 or 8 Celsius degree in Punjab, which is also blanketed by fog, in the month of December, making it difficult for school children to attend the classes. It is the reason authorities announce winter holidays for all public and private schools.
Winter Vacation Schedule in 2023
Last year, the provincial government had previously announced the winter vacation from Dec 18 to 31. However, the students and their parents had also demanded to extend the vacation by one week due to the harsh weather and intensive fog.
Later, the provincial government extended the holidays till Jan 9, 2023 and announced that schools will reopen on Jan 10.
Expected Winter Vacation Schedule in 2024
The Punjab government is expected to start winter vacation for schools from December 21 (Saturday) while schools would open on Jan 1 (Wednesday).
