In a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the progress of Karachi’s Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project was reviewed, with a firm resolve to address challenges and ensure timely completion. The session, attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Trans Karachi CEO Tariq Manzoor Chandio, international consultants, and other officials, covered various issues, including the construction of bus depots and terminals, utility shifting, and related works.
CEO Tariq Manzoor Chandio provided an update on the progress achieved so far, while international consultants offered recommendations to align the project with global standards and tackle ongoing hurdles.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized the transformative potential of the Red Line BRT for Karachi’s commuters.
“The Red Line BRT is a game changer for Karachi commuters, and any further delay in the progress cannot be afforded,” he said, highlighting the urgency of completing the project. The minister directed the Transport Department to maintain close coordination with utility service providers to resolve issues such as utility transfers and expedite construction efforts.
He reiterated the Sindh government’s dedication to creating a modern, efficient, and eco-friendly transportation system for Karachi residents.
Stretching 26 kilometers, the Red Line BRT is designed to serve as a vital artery for the city’s mass transit network, with the capacity to transport thousands of passengers daily. It promises to reduce congestion on Karachi’s roads, offering a sustainable solution to the city’s traffic woes.
