LAHORE – As authorities in Punjab started crackdown on those keeping lions and other wild cats, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz announced financial aid for the victims.
Each injured person will receive Rs500,000 as part of Punjab government’s support package after shocking lion attack in Johar Town that left several people, including children and a woman, injured.
In strong response to incident, CM Maryam Nawaz stressed keeping wild animals, especially dangerous species like lions, without proper authorization is strictly prohibited. “There is no room for illegal possession of wild animals anywhere in the province,” she made it clear.
At her stern directive, Punjab Wildlife Department launched province-wide crackdown on illegal wildlife ownership. So far, raids have been conducted at 22 locations, leading to the recovery of 8 lions being kept unlawfully. Authorities have arrested 5 individuals found keeping lions without valid licenses.
To better regulate wildlife ownership and prevent such incidents in the future, the government has introduced a special mobile application for registration of exotic and wild animals. According to officials, 584 lions and tigers have already been registered through the newly launched “Wildlife App.”
The government’s swift action and technology-driven approach signal a firm commitment to public safety and wildlife conservation in Punjab.
