ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday issued its written verdict in the Noor Mukadam murder case, holding that Zahir Jaffer is not entitled to any sympathy, describing him as the “ruthless murderer”.
The top court upheld the death sentence of convicted killer Zahir Jaffer.
The apex court ruled that the decisions of both the trial court and the Islamabad High Court were legally sound and unanimously correct.
The verdict confirmed the admissibility of key evidence presented during the trial, including CCTV footage showing the physical assault on Noor, the digital video recorder (DVR), and the hard disk. The court found no evidence of tampering in the video footage and affirmed that the identification of the accused was accurate.
The SC further held that the DNA report confirmed the act of rape, and that Noor Mukadam’s blood was found on the murder weapon. The convict, it added, failed to offer any credible explanation for her presence at the crime scene.
While the court upheld the death sentence for murder, it converted the rape conviction to life imprisonment.
Zahir Jaffer was convicted of brutally torturing and murdering Noor Mukadam in Islamabad in July 2021. The trial court had sentenced him to death, a verdict later upheld by the Islamabad High Court. Jaffer then appealed to the Supreme Court, which has now rejected his plea, bringing an end to the high-profile legal battle.
