NOWSHERA – Maulana Hamidul Haq, the son of late Maulana Samiul Haq, and three others lost their lives in a suicide blast during Friday prayers at Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak area of Nowshera in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Inspector General of KP Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, has confirmed the deaths, adding that more than 20 people also injured in the attack.
IGP said 25 police officials were deployed for security during the Friday prayers, adding that there was no any threat alert regarding the blast. He said the area has been cordoned off and an operation has been launched to trace the perpetrators.
Darul Uloom Haqqania Blast
Rescue officials said that four bodies were shifted to a hospital in Nowshera while an emergency has been declared at all hospitals. Reports said the blast took place at 2:02 pm during the Friday prayers, adding that most of the injured are in critical condition.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the attack and termed the death of Maulana Hamidul Haq, who was also a leader of JUI a major loss. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has also condemned the blast and sought a report from police in this regard.
