The Sindh High Court (SHC) Circuit Bench in Sukkur issued a stern warning to officials from the Sindh food department on Wednesday, cautioning them of potential arrest if wheat sacks were not promptly provided to farmers. Following complaints from farmers regarding the non-availability of wheat sacks, petitions were filed with the Sukkur Bench of the Sindh High Court. Allegations surfaced that influential landlords were receiving preferential treatment in obtaining wheat sacks while demanding payments from farmers.
A two-member bench, presided over by Justice Adnan Abdul KarimMemon and Justice Muhammad Abdul Rehman, heard the petitions. After considering the initial arguments, the court directed officials from the Sindh food department to ensure the provision of wheat sacks to farmers by 11 am the following day. Failure to comply with this order would result in potential arrest, the court warned. Despite the readiness of the wheat crop for market supply, farmers reportedly encountered difficulties in obtaining wheat sacks, exacerbating their challenges in the agricultural process.
