ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on Saturday dismissed 19 out of 24 complaints filed against superior court judges under Article 209 of the Constitution while five complaints were deferred for further consideration.
The council met under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi.
Other members in attendance included Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Aalia Neelum and Justice Junaid Ghaffar while Justice Mansoor Ali Shah joined the meeting via video link.
According to the official communiqué, the SJC unanimously rejected 19 complaints after reviewing their merit. The council also approved the draft of the Supreme Judicial Council Secretariat Service Rules 2025 aimed at streamlining internal operations.
It was noted that further legal consultation is required on proposed amendments to the code of conduct for judges.
The council also decided to hold more discussions on the procedure for conducting judicial inquiries.
The sources revealed that during the meeting, the council considered the suggestion to make public the names of judges once complaints against them are disposed of.
However, the proposal was rejected, and the confidentiality of proceedings will be maintained as per tradition and legal norms.
