LAHORE – The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore concluded its four-day haematology training course on Friday with a certificate distribution ceremony, where the Vice Chancellor underscored the urgent need to restore clinical credibility through structured training and improved diagnostic practices. The course brought together 30 participants from Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta, offering a blend of expert-led lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions focused on core concepts in haematology.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, UHS Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore emphasised the critical need to regain lost credibility in clinical and laboratory practice. “Even correct interpretation of a Complete Blood Count (CBC) report is often overlooked by professionals. Skills that should be embedded in our professional programs are conspicuously absent,” he remarked.
“We have restructured our MPhil and PhD programs to be time-bound and competency-driven. Our focus now is to build faculties in various disciplines and ensure consistent academic activity that contributes to stronger professional communities,” he added.
He underlined the importance of foundational laboratory skills and ethical integrity in medical training, stating, “Credibility is the cornerstone of clinical judgment, and we must work to earn it back”, he opined.
The course, aimed at postgraduates, early-career clinicians, and lab professionals, covered essential theoretical and practical aspects of haematology. It included expert-led lectures, discussions, and daily hands-on workshops held in the university’s Haematology Lab.
