ISLAMABAD – The Economic Survey of Pakistan for outgoing fiscal year 2024-25 revealed that a significant number of of Pakistanis went abroad in search of employment during the financial year.
More than 727,000 individuals left Pakistan for jobs abroad during the current fiscal year. Of them, 452,000 or 62 percent, went to Saudi Arabia, making it the top destination for Pakistani workers, while 11 percent went to Oman, while 9 percent went to the United Arab Emirates for employment.
The report stated that the highest number of overseas workers came from Punjab, with 404,345 individuals going abroad in a year.
It was also revealed that 187,000 people from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa went abroad for work, while 60,424 left from Sindh.
Similarly, 29,937 individuals from the tribal areas went overseas for employment, and 29,591 laborers left from Azad Kashmir. From the federal capital, 8,621 workers went abroad during the year.
The report further stated that 5,668 workers from Balochistan and 1,692 individuals from the northern areas left the country for work.
On the other hand, the Economic Survey of Pakistan revealed that remittances during the current fiscal year reached $31.2 billion.
A day earlier, the Economic Survey for the fiscal year 2024–25 was launched in Islamabad, showing an upward economic trajectory and recording a 2.68 percent GDP growth rate.
Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb said this is a gradual recovery, but the right path forward is to achieve sustainable growth.
He said that Pakistan’s recovery should also be seen in the context of global GDP growth, which remained at 3.3 percent last year and is estimated to decline to 2.8 percent this year.
Aurangzeb expressed satisfaction over the major decline in the inflation rate, saying it has come down to 4.6 percent as compared to twenty-three percent last year.
