ISLAMABAD – Torrential rains are predicted in Pakistan from July 15 to July 17 with occasional gaps.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a low-pressure area (LPA) presently located over northwest Madhya Pradesh (India) is likely to affect Pakistan during the next 24 hours. Under the influence of this weather system, strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate the central and upper parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave is also present over the upper parts of the country.
Due to these meteorological conditions, torrential rains are predicted in Pakistan on Tuesday evening/night, Wednesday and Thursday with occasional gaps.
Kashmir/Gilgit-Baltistan: Intermittent rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are expected in Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur) and in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar) till July 17.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Intermittent rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu and Kurram till July 17.
Punjab/Islamabad: Intermittent rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lohdran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, Kot Addu and Layyah till July 17.
Balochistan: Intermittent rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are expected in Quetta, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah, Ziarat, Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Bolan, Barkhan, Naseerabad, Kalat, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Awaran, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti and Kohlu till July 16.
Sindh: Intermittent rains are expected in Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, Khairpur and Nawabshah till July 16. Light rain is also expected in Karachi.
Impacts: Torrential rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, hill torrents of D G Khan, northeast Punjab, Kashmir and Balochistan. Downpour may cause urban flooding in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Khanewal, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, Nowshera and Peshawar.
Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Heavy rains/windstorms/lightning may damage dilapidated buildings, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.
Torrential rain may damage standing crops in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. Public, travellers and tourists are advised to avoid unusual exposure in vulnerable areas and keep updated about any changes in weather conditions.
